In Surah Baqarah, Ayat 177, it is written: “Righteousness is not in turning your faces towards the east or the west. Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Books, and the prophets; who give charity out of their cherished wealth to relatives, orphans, the poor, needy travellers, beggars, and for freeing captives; who establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and keep the pledges they make; and who are patient in times of suffering, adversity, and in the heat of battle. It is they who are true in faith, and it is they who are mindful of Allah.”
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) also spoke about the importance of supporting orphans, saying, “Bring the orphan close to you, pat his head, and feed him with the same food you eat. It will soften your heart and fulfill your need.” He also said, “the one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this”, holding his two fingers together to illustrate the proximity.
The situation facing orphans worldwide is dire. In the poorest countries, one in four children are engaged in child labor, and an estimated 61 million primary-school-age children are out of school, with 53% of them being girls. Additionally, 69 million children suffer from malnutrition.
